Playfair History

July 28th

1976

On This Day July 28thThe horseracing season was off to a busy start in 1976. Attendance was set to hit 60,000 people for the first 13 days of racing—up 11.7 percent from the same period in 1975.

This late July evening was the first Wednesday racing of the year, celebrated with Ladies’ Night. All ladies were admitted for free.

Attendees were also invited to enter a drawing to win one of three 1976 Ford Pintos.

1966

The Lilac City Horse Show and Eastern Washington Championship held its gymkhana in 1966 at Playfair.

More than 400 horses from around the Northwest and Canada were registered for the five-day event, which included 149 classes of horses.
